Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions that all have one thing in common: the person suffering from eating disorders have developed unhealthy eating habits. Often these disorders affect both your physical and mental health. These disorders, if not treated effectively, can cause long-term physical problems, such as harm to body and organs, and in extreme cases, death. They can also be emotionally draining and psychologically difficult for both the patient, and their loved one.
Although the exact causes of eating disorders is not always known, things like genetics and idealized cultural images of being thin seem to be some root causes. In other cases traumas, such as sexual abuse, seem to trigger the condition.
In some cases it is a reaction to root traumas where autonomy and control are concerned.
